PDP Chieftain Ibok Warns Senator Jarigbe Against Defection to APC

Calabar, Nigeria — Former Labour Party Chairman in Cross River State and now a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Austin Ibok, has cautioned Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe — representing Cross River North in the National Assembly — against contemplating defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ibok warned that while a move to the APC might seem beneficial in the short term, it could ultimately prove detrimental in the long run. He maintained that the PDP remains resolute and will not be weakened by recent defections.

In a statement released to journalists in Calabar, Ibok reaffirmed the PDP’s dedication to democratic ideals, adding that the party would intensify its grassroots mobilization, strengthen internal structures, and deepen engagement with Nigerians on pressing national issues.

“We will not be defeated by defections. We will organize, rebuild, and mobilize,” Ibok declared.
“Our mission is clear: to remove the APC from power in 2027 and rescue our country from the destructive policies and over-centralization of power we see under President Tinubu and his allies.”

The PDP stalwart expressed confidence that the opposition party is on course to reclaim power in 2027, emphasizing that recent defections would not derail its momentum.

He also urged party stakeholders across the country to remain steadfast and united in their commitment to building a credible and strategic opposition.

“Let’s keep building an opposition that is principled, strategic, and ready to win back the trust of Nigerians at the polls in 2027,” Ibok added.
