At the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, speaking for President Bola Tinubu, reiterated the country’s dedication to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. The event, hosted by China and UN Women to mark 30 years of the Beijing Declaration, focused on accelerating women’s development.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including the National Gender Policy (2021–2026), Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy (2023), National Policy on Ending Child Marriage, and the Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (2025–2030). She introduced the Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions (RH-SII-774), a nationwide program across 774 local government areas to enhance women-centered development, child protection, and family welfare.

Seeking $1.2 billion over five years to address funding gaps, Nigeria aims to leverage blended finance and private sector partnerships. The Minister emphasized empowering women in emerging sectors like the green economy and digital innovation, drawing inspiration from China’s poverty alleviation efforts.

She stressed, “Empowering women is an investment in productivity, peace, and prosperity.” The Nigerian delegation included key figures like Hon. Kafilat Ogbara and Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim.
