“The Book of Sacrificial Slaughter and Hunting (Kitabu al-Dhaba’ih wa al-Sayd)
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
On the Day of the battle of Khaibar, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) made donkey’s meat unlawful and allowed the eating of horse flesh.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهم ـ قَالَ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ، وَرَخَّصَ فِي لُحُومِ الْخَيْلِ

1. Shaykh Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen explained in his commentary of this hadith that the Prophet ﷺ forbade the consumption of domesticated donkey meat on the day of Khaybar (7 AH), when people were suffering hunger and had slaughtered and cooked them, after which the Prophet ﷺ ordered the pots to be emptied. The prohibition applies specifically to domesticated donkeys, excluding wild donkeys, which are lawful. In contrast, the Prophet ﷺ permitted the consumption of horse meat, as confirmed by explicit statements and by the practice of the Companions, such as the report of Asmaaʾ رضي الله عنها that they slaughtered and ate a horse during the Prophet’s ﷺ lifetime. – Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen

The Shaykh then refuted arguments claiming horse meat is unlawful based on association in the Qur’an with donkeys and mules (see Surah an-Nahl ayah 8), clarifying that such reasoning is weak, contradicts authentic hadith, and relies on an invalid principle of association. 3. The hadith highlights several rulings such as: it prohibits and forbids the consumption of domesticated donkey meat, while permitting the meat of horses as wholesome and acceptable. It also affirms the permissibility of wild donkeys, as they are considered lawful game and among good foods. The reason for prohibiting domesticated donkeys is that they are described as rijs (impure), which implies that their urine, droppings, and blood are regarded as impure.

A Prayer of Adoration, Praise, Worship, Protection, Blessings, Good Health, and Long Life
All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds.
O Allah, You are Al-Awwal and Al-Ākhir, the Most High and the Most Near. We glorify You as You deserve to be glorified, and we testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except You alone.
> سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِۦ
“Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him.” (Hadith meaning reflected)
O Allah, we adore You and worship You with hearts humbled and tongues grateful. You are perfect in Your names and attributes, complete in mercy and wisdom.
> ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
“All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.” (Qur’an 1:2)
O Most Merciful, we seek Your protection today—protection for our faith, our families, our bodies, and our homes. Shield us from harm seen and unseen, from anxiety and despair, from sickness and sudden trials.
> وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
“And He is over all things competent.” (Qur’an 5:120)
O Allah, send Your blessings upon us on this blessed Jumu‘ah. Open for us doors of goodness that only You can open. Place barakah in our time, our work, and our intentions.
> وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ
“If you were to count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them.” (Qur’an 16:18)
O Healer of hearts and bodies, grant us good health that allows us to worship You with strength and sincerity. Grant us long lives filled with obedience, purpose, and remembrance—not merely years, but value in every breath.
> رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى
“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants.” (Qur’an 14:40)
Special Du‘ā’ for This Jumu‘ah
O Allah, on this 28th Jumu‘ah of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, forgive our past shortcomings, correct our present paths, and secure our future with Your mercy. Replace our worries with tranquility, our weakness with strength, and our sins with sincere repentance. Make us among those whose prayers are accepted on Jumu‘ah, whose hearts are alive with dhikr, and whose end is pleasing to You.
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
“Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.” (Qur’an 2:127)
Āmīn.
May this Jumu‘ah bring you peace, clarity, and nearness to Allah.
Short Jummat Prayers

“Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh.”
(I seek Allah’s forgiveness and turn to Him.)
