Farouk Ahmed Hands Over to New NMDPRA Chief Amid Corruption Probe

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has completed a leadership transition, with outgoing Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, formally handing over to his successor, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed.

The handover ceremony marked the official transfer of responsibilities following Ahmed’s resignation, which came amid corruption allegations raised by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote. In a statement shared on X, NMDPRA said the transition reflects its commitment to institutional continuity, accountability, and effective leadership.

Dangote had accused Ahmed of corruption, alleging misuse of large sums of money for the education of his children in Switzerland and claiming that Ahmed worked against local refining efforts by issuing import licences that favoured foreign traders and oil importers.

Following the petition, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) constituted a panel to investigate the allegations. The commission directed its investigators to focus on the claims raised by Dangote and requested supporting evidence to aid the probe.

The ICPC has stated that Ahmed’s resignation does not affect the investigation, stressing that the inquiry will proceed and be conducted fairly for all parties involved.
