2027: OGUN EX-LAWMAKER MOBILISES GRASSROOTS SUPPORT FOR TINUBU’S RE-ELECTION

A two-term former member of the House of Representatives, Jelili Amusan, has started rallying grassroots political stakeholders in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mobilisation took place at Amusan’s residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday, drawing members of the All Progressives Congress from all 20 local government areas of the state.

While addressing party members, Amusan, who represented Abeokuta South, Obafemi-Owode, and Odeda Federal Constituency, said the meeting aimed to formally galvanise grassroots support for Tinubu under the “PBAT Movement,” highlighting that the President’s performance across key sectors warrants continuity beyond 2027.

Amusan noted that Nigeria’s economy was on the brink of collapse before Tinubu assumed office and praised the reforms introduced by his administration, which are already producing positive outcomes despite initial challenges.

He expressed confidence that the 2027 general election would be straightforward for the President, pointing to the wave of defections into the APC from opposition parties at both state and national levels.

“We have more than two-thirds majority of both the National Assembly and the state governors so far. So, where is the opposition? Those who are supposed to be opposing the APC are already joining us. I don’t think there is anything like opposition in Nigeria any longer,” he said.

Amusan also called on Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration, acknowledging that ongoing reforms may be challenging but are necessary for long-term prosperity.

He assured party members that “there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” urging patience and perseverance, and emphasising that the benefits of the reforms would soon become evident.

Since assuming office, Tinubu’s administration has implemented major economic reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, aimed at stabilising public finances and positioning the economy for sustainable growth.

The APC currently controls the presidency, a majority in the National Assembly, and most state governments, including Ogun State, where it has maintained strong grassroots structures since 2015.

In recent months, the party has also seen defections from opposition parties at both federal and state levels, further consolidating its political dominance.
