PUBLIC STATEMENT
I, Spencilene Precious Benson, daughter of Mama Opral Benson, OON, issue this statement in response to a false, malicious, and deliberately misleading publication alleging that my mother is missing.
I categorically state that this publication is entirely false, unfounded, and fabricated, and appears to have been orchestrated by individuals acting with malicious, callous, and nefarious intent.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mama Opral Benson, OON, is not missing. We are presently in Monrovia, Liberia, where she is visiting family members and attending to critical personal and domestic matters. She remains in good health, and we will be returning to Nigeria shortly.
In light of the foregoing, I urge members of the public, family members, associates, and well-wishers to disregard and dismiss in its entirety the false publication alleging that Mama Opral Benson, OON, is missing.

Furthermore, I hereby put the originators and distributors of this false, malicious, and reckless publication on notice to cease immediately from further dissemination of such misinformation. Be advised that I am taking steps to ensure that the appropriate law enforcement and regulatory authorities are formally notified and engaged to investigate this matter and take all necessary action.
This statement is issued to set the record straight and to protect the integrity, safety, and reputation of Mama Opral Benson, OON and her family.
Chief (Mrs.) Opral Benson, the Iya Oge of Lagos, has been reported missing by her family. Her relatives say she was last seen on January 13, 2026, and her whereabouts have been unknown for several days, prompting a public appeal for information to help locate her.
However, contradictory claims are circulating online from an organisation (African Refugees Foundation – AREF) stating she is “safe, in good health, and not missing,” reporting that she is in Liberia. This comes amid social media posts and statements that challenge the missing-person reports.
At this time, there is no definitive confirmation from official sources (police or immediate family spokesperson) in mainstream media beyond the family’s missing-person notice. Authorities or family representatives should be consulted for the most reliable update.
Hope this helps.
There may be a family tussle between her daughters, which resulted in her being taken to Liberia without notifying the other daughter. However, it is unfortunate that the issue has degenerated to this level with such posts going viral. We advise the daughters to close ranks and come to an understanding on caring for their aged mother on a rotational basis, as they are both mothers as well.
We pray for the family and hope God intervenes in the issue for a speedy reconciliation while their aged mother is still alive and healthy.
