The Lagos State Government has announced plans to deploy surveillance drones in partnership with key security agencies as part of efforts to improve intelligence gathering and curb insecurity across the state.
Mr. Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary and CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, revealed the initiative on Monday during a press briefing marking his first 100 days in office. He explained that the program aims to enhance aerial monitoring and facilitate faster responses to security threats.

Ogunsan said the Trust Fund is preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Airwing to coordinate air-based security operations across Lagos. The partnership will deploy Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, to expand surveillance coverage, strengthen intelligence collection, and improve operational coordination among security agencies.
Highlighting Lagos as Nigeria’s commercial hub, Ogunsan emphasized the need for continuous investment in modern security infrastructure to protect lives, property, and economic activity.

Reflecting on the first 100 days of his tenure, Ogunsan stated that the Trust Fund had increased its financial capacity through targeted fundraising and closer engagement with stakeholders. He revealed that 80 new operational and patrol vehicles have been deployed to enhance security presence and response times, with additional vehicles expected in the coming months.

Ogunsan also announced that a private donor has pledged to construct a permanent office complex for the agency. Efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate previously abandoned Armoured Personnel Carriers and return them to active service.

Looking ahead, the Trust Fund plans to introduce statewide training programs for security personnel, focusing on professionalism, tactical efficiency, and improved service delivery.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, innovation, and strategic partnerships, stressing that these principles remain central to maintaining a safe and secure Lagos.

“Through collaboration and innovation, we will continue to strengthen security and ensure a safer environment for all residents,” Ogunsan said.
