The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old man, Malam Muhammad Lawan, for allegedly chaining his 40-year-old biological son inside a room for 17 years in Shadawanka Village, on the outskirts of Bauchi Local Government Area.

The shocking case came to light on Monday, February 16, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., following a distress call from community members who reported the inhumane treatment of the victim.
Counter-insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makama revealed the incident via a statement posted on X on Tuesday.

According to the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘B’ Division, alongside officers from the Police Response and Special Patrol Unit (PRESPOL), led a team of detectives to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim in a helpless condition, confined in a room with a chain locked around his right leg.
The father was immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for urgent medical attention.

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that the matter is under active investigation and assured the public that anyone found culpable in such cruel and inhuman acts will be brought to justice.
The prolonged confinement has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for greater community vigilance and protection of vulnerable individuals.
