Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have dismantled a criminal syndicate specialising in fraud, impersonation, and abduction of unsuspecting members of the public.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed the breakthrough in a statement released to journalists in Damaturu on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

According to the statement, four suspected members of the syndicate were arrested during an intelligence-led operation. The police also rescued one abducted victim and recovered a Toyota SUV used in the commission of the crime.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was abducted in Damaturu by the suspects, who impersonated security operatives.
“The suspects allegedly leveled false allegations of graft and financial impropriety against the victim as a ploy to unlawfully detain, intimidate, and extort him, before forcefully conveying him toward Potiskum in the hired vehicle,” the statement read.

The four suspects have voluntarily confessed to the offences and are currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing with a view to diligent prosecution and possible recovery of additional evidence or identification of other accomplices.

The Yobe State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating all forms of criminality and urged residents to remain vigilant, provide credible information, and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
