The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the recovery of 7,096 illicit drugs, along with various stolen items and vandalised public infrastructure, during a series of coordinated operations across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed the details in a statement released on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Among the recovered items were:
– One motorcycle
– Three blocks of cannabis sativa
– 13 domestic animals
– 39 yards of shadda materials
– Three sewing machines
– One solar battery
– One split air conditioner
– Large quantities of vandalised armoured cable wires

The operations resulted in the arrest of suspected armed robbers, drug dealers, vandals, burglars, and cattle rustlers in various locations across the state.
One notable arrest involved a 30-year-old suspect, Sulaiman Usman, intercepted at Majiyawa village in possession of a blood-stained motorcycle and an iron rod. Investigations revealed that he allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist in Bauchi State and fled with the motorcycle. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further action.

In separate operations:
– Seven suspected drug dealers were arrested in Dutse, Miga, Jahun, Birnin Kudu, and Kafin Hausa Local Government Areas, with cannabis and thousands of illicit drugs recovered.
– In Hadejia, suspects linked to shopbreaking were arrested, and shadda materials along with sewing machines were recovered.
– In Kazaure, a suspected burglar was apprehended with a solar battery and split air conditioner believed to have been stolen from a federal institution.

– Two suspected vandals were arrested in Gwaram and Taura with large quantities of armoured cables.
– Five suspects were arrested in Maigatari, Sule Tankarkar, and Hadejia LGAs over alleged theft of domestic animals; 13 animals were recovered and will be returned to their rightful owners.

Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication, urging them to maintain the momentum in the fight against crime.
He appealed to residents to support the police by providing credible and timely information, emphasising that security is a shared responsibility.

The command assured that all arrested suspects will face prosecution after thorough investigations are completed.
Stakeholders have continued to express concern over the rising trend of drug abuse among Nigerian youths, calling for urgent and multi-faceted measures to address the growing menace.
