ADAMAWA GOVERNOR FINTIRI DUMPS PDP, DEFECTS TO APC

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, February 27, 2026, Fintiri announced that his cabinet and members of the PDP have joined him in moving to the APC.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation about the governor’s political realignment.

The APC had earlier postponed its planned state congresses in Adamawa to accommodate Fintiri and his political structure, a move widely seen as a deliberate concession to facilitate his smooth entry into the party without internal opposition.

Earlier this week, 15 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly — including Speaker Bathiya Wesley and Deputy Speaker Buba Jijiwa — resigned from the PDP, citing the “lingering crisis” within the party.

With Fintiri’s defection, the PDP is now left with only three governors nationwide, while the APC continues to attract high-profile defections from governors, lawmakers, and other politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development further strengthens the ruling party’s position as it consolidates political support across the country.
