A political advocacy group, Progressive Youth for Asiwaju 2027, has strongly criticised the Northern Youth Forum for issuing a vote of no confidence against Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd).

In a statement signed by its chairman, Engr Sani Danborno, the group described the action as misguided and irresponsible, arguing that it reflects a poor understanding of how national security administration works.

According to the group, while the frustration and grief of northern communities facing banditry, kidnappings and insurgent attacks are understandable, directing that anger at the defence minister is misplaced. It stressed that national security management involves complex strategies, intelligence coordination and a structured chain of command that cannot be reduced to political pressure or public demands for resignations.

The group further noted that General Musa earned his position through years of distinguished military service, saying his experience and contributions to combating insurgency and restoring stability in troubled regions played a key role in his appointment.
It also pointed out that the minister has continued to demonstrate commitment to improving security operations, including convening meetings with service chiefs and the National Security Adviser to review strategies and address emerging threats across the country.

Progressive Youth for Asiwaju 2027 called on the Northern Youth Forum to withdraw the vote of no confidence and issue a public apology to the defence minister. The group warned that politicising security matters could undermine national efforts to tackle insecurity.

The organisation also urged leaders and stakeholders across northern Nigeria to discourage actions that could weaken public trust in the country’s security institutions.
