INSPECTOR-GENERAL DISU DECORATES 13 POLICE AIGS, 17 CPS, WARNS AGAINST CORRUPTION, INDISCIPLINE

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has formally decorated 30 newly promoted senior officers, cautioning them against corruption, abuse of office, and operational negligence.

The ceremony, held Monday at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, included 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs). This follows the recent promotion of 84 senior officers across various ranks, including 54 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), marking one of the largest leadership reshuffles in recent years.

Addressing the officers, Disu emphasised that the promotions were not mere rewards but a test of leadership in a police system facing public scrutiny and institutional challenges.

“These elevations are not just recognition of service but a call to greater accountability,” he said. “The force will no longer tolerate indiscipline, corruption, or dereliction of duty. Officers must take responsibility for misconduct under their commands.”

Disu also reiterated the force’s commitment to “people-oriented policing,” stressing that respect for human rights must be central to all operations. He highlighted community engagement as a key priority to rebuild public trust, noting past accusations of brutality, extortion, and abuse of power.

In addition, the IGP announced that all newly promoted AIGs would attend a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat starting Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the programme will focus on modern policing standards, leadership ethics, and institutional reforms.

Sources within the police confirmed that Assistant Inspector General of Police Moshood Jimoh, the outgoing Lagos State Commissioner of Police, had lobbied to secure a strategic posting at either Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Island, or the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) Annex in Alagbon. He was subsequently assigned to Zone 2 Command.

The decoration of these officers comes amid ongoing reshuffles across key police commands and units, reflecting a broader effort to strengthen leadership and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
