Former House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Doguwa, alongside former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and other prominent party stakeholders, have endorsed former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Murtala Garo, for the position of Deputy Governor of Kano State.

Doguwa made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja, explaining that the decision was reached during a late-night strategic meeting held on Saturday where key party leaders reportedly rallied strong support for Garo’s candidacy.

According to him, Garo received overwhelming backing from participants, with about 90 percent of attendees supporting his nomination. He described the former commissioner as a loyal, experienced, and dependable political figure capable of contributing to effective governance in the state.
The endorsement follows the recent resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, which created a vacancy in the state’s executive leadership. Although several names were considered, including Rabiu Bichi and Kabiru Rurum, discussions ultimately favoured Garo, who emerged as the preferred choice among stakeholders.

Other influential figures reportedly backing the decision include former Deputy Governor and ex-Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, as well as several party leaders within the state.

Garo’s political background includes roles such as National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2007, Special Adviser to a former Kano State governor, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, and two-term Commissioner. He also served as the APC deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

Stakeholders expressed confidence that his potential appointment would enhance unity within the party and contribute to political stability in Kano State.
