Ondo State Police Command has successfully prevented a planned attack on government facilities in Akure and surrounding areas after intercepting a group of suspected criminals allegedly preparing to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed that six suspects were arrested following intelligence-led operations that enabled officers to track and apprehend them before the plot could be carried out.
He explained that the arrests were made after credible intelligence indicated the activities of a suspected criminal network operating across state boundaries, prompting a swift tactical response by police operatives in Akure.

During the operation and a follow-up search at the suspects’ residence, officers reportedly recovered several items believed to be linked to the fabrication of explosive devices and other criminal activities. These included bottles, sugar, charms, multiple mobile phones, cash, laptops, slings, a knife, an external hard drive, identity cards, a NIN card, and motorcycles.

Preliminary investigations suggest that some of the recovered materials were intended for assembling explosive devices, while others were allegedly used to support coordinated criminal operations.
The police command assured residents of continued security efforts and urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious movements or activities to law enforcement agencies.
