ABDUL-AZEEZ ADEDIRAN WITHDRAWS FROM LAGOS GOVERNORSHIP RACE, CITES TINUBU’S BACKING OF HAMZAT

Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, a prominent Lagos State governorship aspirant, has announced his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.

Adediran, leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, made the announcement during a press briefing on Thursday, stating that his decision aligns with the political direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the endorsement of the party’s consensus candidate.

He explained that his initial ambition had always been to contest the governorship under the APC platform but emphasized that he would respect the party’s final decision and work in unity with its leadership.

His withdrawal follows the reported endorsement of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as the APC consensus candidate, a development linked to consultations involving party leaders and President Bola Tinubu.

Jandor noted that the decision was made after internal party discussions involving key stakeholders, including the Governance Advisory Council, the President, and the Deputy Governor.

He reaffirmed his commitment to support the APC in the upcoming elections, pledging full mobilisation for the party’s success across all levels in 2027.

The former 2023 PDP governorship candidate recalled his return to the APC in 2025 and said his group had actively supported the party in local government elections by contributing campaign efforts and grassroots mobilisation, despite not fielding candidates.

He stressed that their participation was driven by loyalty to party unity and a belief in collective political success, adding that they would continue to support the party moving forward.

Jandor also expressed gratitude to his supporters for their contributions toward his nomination form and encouraged them not to be discouraged, describing the move as a collective political realignment rather than a personal setback.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to party unity and thanked supporters and stakeholders for their continued trust.
