A severe rainstorm has devastated Dokan Mai-Jama’a community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving at least two people dead and destroying over 50 houses.

The Village Head, Hamisu Tukur, confirmed that the storm struck on Monday evening, forcing many residents out of their homes and causing widespread destruction across the area. He said several buildings were either badly damaged or completely flattened by the strong winds that accompanied the heavy rainfall.
Residents reported that the rain began around 6:41 p.m. and lasted about 40 minutes, during which powerful winds ripped off rooftops and collapsed structures. Many families have since been displaced and were seen searching through debris to recover belongings.

In nearby Sabon Gyero within Millennium City, also in Chikun LGA, the storm caused additional damage, destroying houses and more than 10 perimeter fences. The rainfall also disrupted movement after a major road was blocked, forcing motorists to divert to alternative routes.

Affected residents have appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) for urgent intervention and relief support.

Emergency response teams have begun assessing the extent of the destruction, with NEMA deploying officials to the area to evaluate the situation and coordinate assistance.
Authorities, including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), have warned of intensified rainfall patterns this year, raising concerns about possible future storm-related disasters across the region.
