CEOS BEHIND NIGERIA’S MOST PROFITABLE MANUFACTURING COMPANIES

Nigeria’s manufacturing sector recorded impressive earnings growth in 2025, as several major industry players posted record profits despite challenges such as inflation, high production costs, and foreign exchange instability.

A review of the profit-after-tax performance of leading listed manufacturing companies showed that cement producers and consumer goods firms remained the biggest drivers of profitability in the sector.

Many of the companies recorded massive growth in earnings, with some achieving triple-digit increases fueled by higher prices, stronger revenue generation, operational efficiency, and expanded production capacity.

At the centre of the success are chief executives and managing directors who have spent years building experience in manufacturing, engineering, supply chain operations, and industrial management.

From large cement manufacturers running multi-million-ton production plants to consumer goods companies expanding aggressively across markets, these executives played key roles in shaping the strong financial results seen in 2025.

Data from the sector showed that the top 10 most profitable manufacturing companies generated more than ₦2.52 trillion in combined profit-after-tax, accounting for nearly all the profits recorded across the industry.

In total, 28 listed manufacturing firms posted combined profits of ₦2.55 trillion in 2025, representing a sharp increase of more than 1,000 per cent compared to the ₦292.64 billion recorded in the previous year.

Consumer goods companies dominated the rankings with six firms among the top 10, while industrial goods companies occupied the remaining positions.

Interestingly, companies such as Nestlé Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries, International Breweries, and Guinness Nigeria, which recorded losses in 2024, made remarkable recoveries within a year.

Analysts said the results highlight the importance of production scale, market expansion, operational efficiency, and pricing power in determining profitability in Nigeria’s manufacturing industry.

Among the top performers was Beta Glass Plc, led by Alexander Gendis.

The company posted a profit-after-tax of ₦33.25 billion in 2025, representing a 144 per cent increase from ₦13.63 billion recorded in 2024.

Its revenue also rose by 27 per cent to ₦149.12 billion, driven by stronger industrial demand and improved production efficiency.

Under Gendis’ leadership, Beta Glass has continued to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s industrial glass and packaging sector, supplying products to beverage and consumer goods manufacturers across the country.

The company’s total assets increased by 36.87 per cent to ₦183.89 billion, while return on assets stood at 18.08 per cent.

Despite recording one of the lower profit margins among the top companies, Beta Glass still delivered strong earnings growth supported by higher sales and operational improvements.
