US Lobbying Firm Says Congress Seeking Evidence of Alleged Political Interference in Nigeria
A United States-based lobbying and advocacy firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has revealed that some members of the U.S. Congress have requested assistance in gathering information on alleged election and political interference involving officials of the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu.
The firm disclosed this in a statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where it also announced that it had been engaged by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to support efforts aimed at promoting democratic participation and electoral integrity in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the firm has been mandated to collect information relating to alleged interference in Nigeria’s political process and is inviting individuals with verifiable evidence to come forward.
“Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has instructed us to fight for the right of all Nigerians to participate in free and fair elections,” the firm stated.
It added that some members of the U.S. Congress had expressed interest in receiving documented evidence concerning claims of election manipulation and political interference.

“Members of Congress have also asked us to assist in documenting credible allegations of election and political interference by members of the current Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu,” the statement noted.
The firm specifically appealed to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other individuals who possess credible and verifiable evidence relating to alleged electoral interference to submit relevant information for review.
It also referenced allegations reportedly linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and encouraged anyone with firsthand knowledge or supporting evidence to contact the organisation through its official communication channels.
The development comes amid growing political tensions ahead of future elections in Nigeria, with opposition parties increasingly raising concerns about the conduct of political activities and the independence of democratic institutions.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Federal Government had issued an official response to the claims made by the U.S.-based lobbying firm. Likewise, there has been no public statement from the U.S. Congress confirming the alleged request for documentation.
