The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has extended the ongoing maintenance work on the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line to allow contractors complete the installation of the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) project along the route.

According to the company, the exercise, which began earlier this year, will now continue until June 30, 2026. The extension is intended to facilitate the completion of OPGW stringing works across the 276-kilometre transmission corridor.
TCN stated that the maintenance activities will impact electricity supply in areas served by the Yola and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies, including Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, Jalingo and surrounding communities.

Customers in the affected locations are expected to experience reduced power supply between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday during the maintenance period. Some communities will face temporary outages during work hours, with electricity restored after daily operations are concluded.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and assured residents that efforts are underway to complete the project within schedule.
TCN noted that the OPGW installation and associated upgrades will enhance grid monitoring capabilities, improve operational performance, and strengthen the reliability of power transmission across the affected regions.

The prolonged power challenges have continued to affect residents and businesses in parts of Taraba State, where many communities have struggled with unstable electricity supply in recent weeks.
