AMAECHI TO LEAD ADC CAMPAIGNS AS ATIKU PLANS PRESIDENCYREFORM

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has challenged claims by former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, that he played the decisive role in securing the election of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Oshiomhole alleged that Amaechi was unable to cast his vote during the 2015 presidential election due to the political influence of his successor in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. He further claimed that Amaechi encouraged his supporters in the state to boycott the election.

The remarks came after Amaechi stated in a television interview that he, rather than President Bola Tinubu, was largely responsible for Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015.

Meanwhile, discussions within the African Democratic Congress are said to be progressing regarding Amaechi’s potential role in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Sources familiar with the development indicated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is considering Amaechi for a major leadership position within his campaign structure. The move is reportedly aimed at strengthening the party’s electoral strategy and promoting a more collaborative approach to governance.

According to those involved in the discussions, the proposed arrangement seeks to redefine the relationship between the president and vice president by assigning greater responsibilities to the deputy office and encouraging a partnership-based leadership model.

There are also indications that former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, may be given a prominent role within the campaign organisation as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

Party stakeholders have maintained that ongoing policy discussions are focused on institutional reforms and strengthening democratic governance ahead of the next general election.
