Iran’s military has warned that the conflict in the Middle East could spread further if the United States resumes military attacks on the country, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to Washington.
Speaking on state television on Sunday, Iranian Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said any renewed US military action, particularly air strikes carried out in support of Israel, could significantly widen the scope of the conflict.
According to him, the ongoing tensions have already extended to the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the entrance to the Red Sea, citing recent hostilities involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Akraminia also claimed that Iran’s operational reach now covers several parts of the region, including areas where US military bases are located and countries bordering the Persian Gulf.
He described the current security situation facing the United States in the Middle East as unstable, adding that Washington may now be reassessing its regional strategy.
The military spokesman stated that Iran is prepared for different possible scenarios should the conflict escalate further.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.
The meeting will mark another high-level engagement between the two leaders since Trump’s return to office. During the visit, Netanyahu is also expected to attend the funeral service of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom Israeli officials described as a longtime friend of the country.
Although Trump and Netanyahu have maintained close political ties, recent reports suggest differences have emerged over how to handle the conflict involving Iran, with debate continuing over whether to pursue further military action or prioritise diplomatic efforts.
Earlier this month, Trump said he enjoys a strong relationship with Netanyahu, but their alliance has reportedly experienced moments of tension, particularly during discussions surrounding a proposed US-Iran ceasefire that ultimately failed to hold.
