Court Adjourns Atiku’s Suit Seeking Tinubu’s Disqualification From 2027 Presidential Election
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned a lawsuit filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that seeks to disqualify President Bola Tinubu from running in the 2027 presidential election.
Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the case to September 28, 2026, after the court heard that Atiku’s legal team had been unable to personally serve President Tinubu with the court documents, as required by law.
Why the Case Was Adjourned
Atiku’s lawyer, Joseph Onu, told the court that they had not been able to personally deliver the court papers to President Tinubu. He asked the court for permission to serve the documents through an alternative method.
However, a lawyer representing Tinubu, Omosanya Popoola, offered to accept the documents on behalf of the President. But Atiku’s lawyer refused, insisting that Popoola must first provide a written confirmation that he has the authority to accept service for Tinubu.
