A gathering in Abia State reportedly became tense after Senator Mao Ohuabunwa called on residents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

A video from the event circulating online showed Ohuabunwa addressing the crowd and appealing for support for Tinubu and the APC. However, some members of the audience openly rejected the appeal, making their opposition known as the senator spoke.

The reaction has generated attention, particularly because the disagreement came directly from people present at the gathering. Some reactions to the footage described the crowd as favouring Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 election.

Ohuabunwa, a former senator who represented Abia North Senatorial District, has previously spoken about development and infrastructure issues involving both the Abia State Government and the Federal Government.
The incident comes as political parties and their supporters step up mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the South-East expected to remain an important political battleground.
