Suspected kidnappers have invaded a residential community near the Quarry area of Arab Road in Kubwa, Abuja, killing one resident and abducting another during a late-night attack.

The incident reportedly occurred between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday, when armed men stormed the area, shooting sporadically as they entered the community.
According to residents, the attackers forced their way into a home after engaging local security operatives in a gun duel. One of the victims was shot during the invasion and later died in the hospital, while his younger brother was taken away by the assailants.
Community leaders said police officers arrived after the attackers had already fled through nearby hills, which residents believe have become a recurring route used by criminals to access the area.

A community secretary described the attack as part of a troubling pattern, noting that it is the third major kidnapping incident recorded in the area in recent years. He recalled previous cases, including the killing of a resident and the abduction of a corps member in earlier attacks, as well as another kidnapping last year that reportedly ended in ransom payment.

Residents also said there had been a recent attempt by suspected kidnappers to infiltrate the community, which was reportedly repelled by local vigilante groups and hunters who now provide informal security support.

Community members have called on authorities to increase security presence in the area, including establishing a nearby police post and intensifying patrols to prevent further attacks.
Police authorities in the Federal Capital Territory are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations are expected to continue.
