Atiku Visits Amaechi After Winning ADC Presidential Ticket
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday paid a visit to former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence, just hours after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku was accompanied by former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, former ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and several party leaders.
The visit followed the conclusion of the ADC presidential primary held on Wednesday night at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, where Atiku defeated Amaechi and former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to clinch the party’s ticket.
According to the official results announced by the party, Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi polled 504,117 votes and Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
Following the announcement, the party leadership led by former Senate President, David Mark, presented the ADC flag to Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.
The party had opted for a direct primary election after the three aspirants rejected calls for a consensus arrangement before the exercise.

Sharing details of the visit on his X account, Atiku said the meeting with Amaechi focused on the current state of the nation, including worsening economic hardship, insecurity and the need for patriotic Nigerians to work together in finding solutions to the country’s challenges.
He also used the opportunity to celebrate Amaechi’s birthday, while joking about Arsenal’s recent success, describing the former governor as a passionate supporter of the English club.
“This afternoon, I visited my brother and compatriot, former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence,” Atiku wrote.
“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions that can rescue our country from drift and despair.”
Atiku added that Amaechi playfully apologised for not preparing Fisherman Soup, a delicacy from Rivers State, promising to make up for it during another visit.
