Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has thrown his weight behind the governorship ambition of his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 election.
The endorsement was made on Monday, April 27, at Lagos House in Marina, during a gathering attended by all 57 local government and Local Council Development Area chairmen in the state.
Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as a capable and experienced leader, saying he possesses the knowledge and competence required to govern Lagos effectively.
According to the governor, his deputy’s years of service and understanding of the state’s administrative structure make him well-prepared for the role.
In recent weeks, Hamzat has been meeting with political and community stakeholders across Lagos as part of his consultations, receiving support from various quarters.
His ambition has also attracted endorsements from prominent figures, including the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. Other key stakeholders, such as Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and former Finance Minister Wale Edun, have also backed his bid.
The growing list of endorsements signals increasing momentum behind Hamzat’s potential candidacy as political activities gradually build up ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.
