CONFUSION AS SIX ISWAP BOMB MAKERS DIES ‘WHILE ASSEMBLING IED’ IN BORNO

At least six suspected members of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed after an improvised explosive device they were attempting to assemble detonated prematurely in Borno State.

The incident reportedly occurred early Saturday morning in Jubilaram area of Marte Local Government Area, a region known for repeated insurgent activity within the Lake Chad Basin.

The group was said to be led by a suspected bomb specialist, identified as Abu Umar, who also died in the explosion alongside five other militants. Three additional members sustained severe injuries from the blast.

Security assessments indicate that the deceased individuals were part of an ISWAP cell responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices along the Marte–Kerenoa–Wulgo axis, a corridor frequently used for militant movements in the region.

The explosion is believed to have destroyed the site being used for bomb-making activities, leaving the facility heavily damaged and potentially disrupting ongoing operations in the area.

Security analysts suggest that the deaths of key bomb-making operatives could temporarily weaken the group’s ability to produce explosive devices within the region.

Authorities are also reportedly considering further security operations, including air and ground actions, aimed at exploiting the situation and restricting militant activity along strategic routes.
