COURT REMANDS THREE SUSPECTS OVER MURDER OF EX-OGTV BROADCASTER KITAN OYESIKU, SECURITY GUARD

Three suspects charged in connection with the gruesome murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Madam Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, have been remanded in a correctional facility by a Magistrate Court sitting at Isabo, Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday arraigned Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), Abduraheem Sakirudeen (27) and Sobur Obafunso (30) before Magistrate Court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta, over the killings, which occurred on June 20, 2026, at Agodo Village, Kobape, Abeokuta.

Following an ex parte application filed by the prosecution, the court granted an order remanding the three defendants in a correctional facility for 60 days pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The matter was subsequently adjourned until September 7, 2026, for further proceedings.

The arraignment marks another significant milestone in the high-profile murder case that shocked Ogun State and attracted widespread public attention. Headlinenews.News had earlier reported that Madam Oyesiku was found murdered alongside her security guard after concerned church members visited her residence when she failed to attend a church service. Police investigations subsequently led to the recovery of her stolen vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.

Madam Kitan Oyesiku was a respected former broadcaster with Ogun State Television and an alumna of Queen’s College, Lagos, and Holy Child College, Lagos. Her tragic death drew widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger measures to combat violent crime.

Following the incident, the National Patriots formally petitioned the Nigeria Police Force, calling for a thorough investigation and the speedy arrest and prosecution of those responsible. The organisation has now welcomed the arraignment as another important step towards justice.

The National Patriots commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, for their intelligence-led policing, professionalism and determination in tracking down the suspects and bringing them before the court within a relatively short period.

The organisation also urged the judiciary to accord the matter accelerated hearing, stressing that justice must neither be delayed nor denied. It maintained that anyone found guilty after due process should face the full punishment prescribed by law, noting that swift and decisive justice would honour the memory of the victims, strengthen public confidence in the criminal justice system and serve as a strong deterrent to violent crime.

Reacting to the court proceedings, Headlinenews.News observed that many members of the public expressed outrage over what they described as the senseless killing of an innocent and respected woman. Several called for the diligent prosecution of the case and urged the courts to ensure that, if the defendants are found guilty after due process, the punishment imposed reflects the provisions of Nigerian law. Many also expressed hope that the case would serve as a strong deterrent against violent crimes and the betrayal of trust by employees.

Speaking with Headlinenews.News shortly after the court proceedings, Mr. Afolabi Adeyemi, a lecturer at Ogun State Polytechnic, described the killings as a shocking and senseless crime that had raised fresh concerns about the safety of employers.

“I came to court for another matter, but I was deeply shocked when I heard the details of this murder. Where are we going as a country?” he said.

He called on the judiciary to ensure that the matter is diligently prosecuted and urged the courts to apply the full weight of the law if the defendants are convicted.

“This was such a pointless killing of an innocent, kind-hearted woman. If employers cannot feel safe around the people they employ, then society is in serious trouble. She was giving people an opportunity to earn a living, yet this is how her life allegedly ended. If the accused persons are found guilty by a competent court after due process, I believe they should receive capital punishment, including death by hanging where provided by law, to serve as a strong deterrent to others. Her death must not be in vain.”

The remand order marks another important stage in the prosecution of the case as investigators await the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions before the commencement of full trial.

Headlinenews.News correspondents were in court to monitor the proceedings and will continue to provide comprehensive updates as the case progresses through the judicial process.
