The Democratic Republic of the Yoruba (D.R.Y.) has announced plans to organise a One Million Freedom March, an event aimed at bringing together supporters to express their views on Yoruba identity, cultural heritage, and self-determination.
According to the group’s Provisional Government, the planned march is part of its efforts to engage Yoruba communities and promote discussions on governance, cultural preservation, and the future of the Yoruba people.

The organisation said its Provisional Government was inaugurated on April 12, 2024, during which Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore was sworn in as the Provisional President and Head of Government.
Supporters of the movement describe Omokore as a key figure in its leadership, stating that he has remained committed to advancing the group’s objectives despite changes within its membership over the years.
The Provisional Government also said it has established a leadership structure responsible for administration, public communications, diplomatic engagement, and outreach to Yoruba communities within Nigeria and across the diaspora.

Organisers stressed that the planned march is intended to be peaceful and will focus on raising awareness about Yoruba history, cultural identity, governance, and heritage.
The group says it represents indigenous Yoruba people and seeks to promote cultural preservation, educational development, institutional growth, economic advancement, and stronger engagement with Yoruba communities around the world.

According to the organisers, participants are expected from various parts of Yorubaland as well as members of the global Yoruba diaspora.

They added that the event will also serve as a platform to present the group’s vision for governance, youth empowerment, economic development, and the preservation of Yoruba culture.
The organisers noted that details regarding the date, venue, and programme for the One Million Freedom March will be announced by the Office of Public Communications at a later time.
