DISRUPTION AT TWO MAJOR UK AIRPORTS DUE TO JET FUEL SHORTAGES

Scotland’s two busiest airports, Glasgow and Edinburgh, experienced temporary jet fuel shortages over the weekend, causing limited disruptions to flight operations.

The shortage, recorded on Sunday, 31 May, affected fuel availability at Glasgow Airport and Edinburgh Airport. Authorities attributed the disruption to a staffing issue involving a fuel supplier rather than any broader geopolitical or supply chain crisis.

As a result, some flights were delayed, while a few aircraft were forced to make unscheduled stops at other UK airports, including Prestwick Airport and Manchester Airport, to refuel before continuing their journeys.

Airport operators confirmed that fuel deliveries have since resumed and that stock levels are gradually returning to normal at both Scottish airports. They also noted that there were no widespread cancellations or major operational shutdowns despite the temporary disruption.

Airlines such as TUI were among those affected, adjusting flight plans to accommodate refuelling stops during the shortage period.

Overall, operations at both airports are now stabilising as fuel supply chains return to normal.
