Former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State after defeating five other aspirants, including former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar.

The result of the party’s primary election, announced on Saturday, showed that Abubakar secured a total of 57,517 votes to clinch the ticket.
Yusuf Tuggar finished second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes. Bala Wunti recorded 13,648 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji garnered 8,157 votes.

The election outcome was announced by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Committee in the state, John Abang, who confirmed that results were collated from across Bauchi State before Abubakar was declared winner and flagbearer of the party.

Tuggar had earlier resigned from his ministerial position in March following a directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections to step aside from their roles.
The primary result positions Abubakar as the APC’s frontline candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Bauchi State.
