Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the country’s ongoing security challenges, saying sustained prayer played a key role during his time as governor of Akwa Ibom State when the region faced cases of kidnapping, militancy and violence.

Speaking during an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking Democracy Day, Akpabio said Nigeria’s survival through past crises is evidence of national resilience.
He recalled introducing monthly prayer sessions while serving as governor, explaining that the initiative was meant to confront rising insecurity at the time.
According to him, continued prayers are necessary for divine intervention and for those behind criminal activities to be exposed.

He acknowledged the pain caused by insecurity across the country, including kidnappings and violent attacks, noting that many families are currently living in fear and uncertainty.
Akpabio stressed that despite the challenges, Nigeria has endured political instability, economic difficulties, pandemics and insurgency, and continues to maintain democratic governance for over two decades.

He added that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu remains committed to addressing insecurity and ensuring the safe return of all abducted persons.
He also noted that this year’s Democracy Day was observed in a low-key manner due to prevailing national security concerns, while urging unity, patience and collective effort in overcoming the situation.
