This development followed the signing of agreements for eight major road projects at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja between Wednesday and Thursday. The projects include four flagship “legacy highways” and four additional strategic road contracts spread across multiple states.

The legacy highway projects cover key routes such as the Calabar–Ebonyi–Abuja Superhighway, Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu corridor, stretching across several geopolitical zones. Additional projects include major road reconstructions and dualisation works in Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun, and Osun states.

Umahi explained that part of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Abuja Superhighway has already been procured, while another section running through Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa states will further connect the South-East to the Federal Capital Territory.

He stated that the completed network would drastically reduce travel time between the South-East and Abuja, while also boosting trade and economic activity along the corridor.

The minister praised President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development, especially in the South-East, describing the ongoing projects as unprecedented in recent years.
