The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the World Bank to improve access to safe drinking water and enhance food security across Nigeria.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, made the commitment while hosting a delegation from the World Bank in Abuja, where discussions focused on advancing key development projects in the water and agriculture sectors.

According to the minister, the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration places priority on expanding access to clean water, boosting food production through irrigation and creating employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Utsev said enhanced cooperation with the World Bank would help speed up the implementation of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project, as well as other strategic initiatives being carried out by the ministry with support from the global financial institution.

He also confirmed the ministry’s participation in the upcoming Africa Water Forum, which is scheduled to take place later this month in N’Djamena, Chad.

Speaking on the event, World Bank SPIN Project Task Team Leader Zack Zieglhifer and Co-Task Team Leader Chinedu Umolu said the forum will bring together key stakeholders for high-level discussions aimed at promoting innovative financing, strengthening water security and encouraging concrete commitments to improve water resources across Africa.
