“Governor A.A Sule Bows Out: Supreme Court Ruling Marks the End of His Political Ambitions”

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has firmly stated that he harbors no aspirations of pursuing a legislative role, be it in the Senate or the House of Representatives, following the conclusion of his eight-year tenure as governor.

Sule successfully served his initial tenure as the state governor from 2019 to 2023 under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite facing stiff opposition from the Peoples Democratic Party and its gubernatorial candidate, David Ombugadu, in his bid for re-election in the 2023 governorship contest, Sule emerged victorious.

However, the victory was contested when Ombugadu took the matter to court, challenging the outcome of the 2023 election. The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, on October 2, nullified Sule’s victory and declared Ombugadu the rightful winner. Dissatisfied with this decision, Sule pursued an appeal, successfully overturning the tribunal’s ruling and affirming his election win.

On Friday, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Supreme Court upheld Sule’s election as the state governor. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Sule emphasized that his primary objective is to govern the state, with no desire to seek positions in the Senate, House of Representatives, or any other political office.

“I came in only to be a governor. I did not come in to be a chairman, a senator, or a member of the House of Representatives. I don’t have any dreams for those offices. I have no dream of becoming even president,” Sule asserted. “You can take it from me confidently that Abdullahi Sule would not go for the Senate after leaving office. By the time I finish my eight years, I can do whatever I want to do. You can keep this tape and play it one day.”

Expressing relief at the Supreme Court’s decision, Sule mentioned that he anticipated a favorable judgment and is now eager to focus on his duties without the distraction of the concluded court case.
