An ex-student opened fire at his former high school in Turkey on Tuesday, injuring 16 people, including several students, before taking his own life after being cornered by security forces.

The attack occurred at a school in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province in southeastern Turkey, a region where school shootings are extremely rare, according to officials.
Authorities said the suspect, born in 2007 and identified as a former student of the school, entered the premises and began shooting, prompting panic among students and staff.

Special security units were immediately deployed to the scene, and students were evacuated as emergency responders rushed in to secure the area. Eyewitness footage showed ambulances stationed outside the school while students fled in fear.
The provincial governor, Hasan Şıldak, confirmed that the attacker died by suicide after being surrounded by police officers.

He added that the school has been evacuated and a full investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances behind the incident.
Local reports indicated that most of the injured victims were students, though authorities have not yet released detailed information on their conditions.
