GUNMEN KILL DRIVER, ABDUCT PASSENGERS ALONG ORE–BENIN EXPRESSWAY

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have attacked a commercial bus belonging to GUO Transport along the Ore–Benin expressway, killing the driver and abducting several passengers in yet another violent incident on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.

The attack reportedly happened when the east-bound bus was ambushed by armed men who opened fire on the vehicle. The driver was killed instantly, while passengers were forced out and taken into nearby bush paths.

Sources say the attackers fled with the victims into the surrounding forest area, a method commonly used by kidnapping gangs operating along that corridor. The exact number of abducted passengers has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Ore–Benin route, which connects the South-West to the South-South, has become increasingly dangerous in recent years, with repeated cases of armed robbery and mass abductions targeting commuters and transport operators.

Security analysts link the rising attacks to limited patrol presence, difficult forest terrain along the highway, and the strategic importance of the route for interstate travel.

As of press time, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm rescue efforts.
