Armed kidnappers have abducted a traditional ruler in Ondo State after attacking his residence and injuring his wife during a late-night operation.
The victim, Adeniyi Adelana, the Baale of Ode Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area, was reportedly taken away by gunmen who stormed his palace on Saturday evening and forced him into a nearby forest.

According to security sources, the attackers arrived under the cover of darkness and carried out the operation within minutes before escaping with the monarch to an unknown location.
During the attack, the traditional ruler’s wife sustained a gunshot wound to her right hand while trying to escape the assailants. She was later rescued and taken to a medical facility where she is receiving treatment.

Police authorities confirmed the incident and disclosed that a large-scale rescue operation had been launched immediately after receiving reports of the abduction.
Security operatives, including police personnel and other agencies, were deployed to the area to comb nearby forests and possible escape routes in an effort to locate the monarch and apprehend the kidnappers.
Authorities said additional tactical units have been deployed across Owo and neighbouring communities to strengthen security and support ongoing rescue efforts.

The Commissioner of Police has reportedly directed intelligence and operational teams to intensify investigations and ensure the safe return of the traditional ruler while bringing those responsible to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the abductors.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings and violent attacks in parts of Ondo State. In recent months, several residents, health workers and community members have reportedly been targeted by criminal gangs in different parts of the state.

Security analysts say the latest abduction underscores the growing threat posed by kidnappers and the urgent need for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities and traditional institutions.
