Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed pride in the economic progress recorded during his time in office, following his exit from the cabinet.
In a statement released shortly after his departure, Edun thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, noting that his involvement in government began with the Presidential Transition Committee and later as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy before becoming Finance Minister.
He said his tenure was marked by efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, strengthen fiscal policies, and lay the groundwork for long-term growth.

“It has been an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey,” he said.
Edun stated that when the Tinubu administration assumed office in 2023, it inherited a challenging economic situation, but collective reforms helped improve key indicators.
According to him, economic growth rose from about 2% to over 4%, while inflation reportedly declined from 35% to 15% during the period.
He credited these outcomes to coordinated efforts across government, including federal and state institutions as well as private sector partners.
“These outcomes were driven by a shared commitment to restoring public trust and enabling faster and inclusive growth through greater investor confidence and improved economic coordination,” he said.

Edun also praised the work of colleagues in government and stakeholders within and outside Nigeria, describing their support as crucial to the reform process.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, he insisted that the direction of economic reforms is clear and the foundations for future progress have been established.
“The work of economic reform is, by its nature, a continuous process. I remain optimistic about Nigeria’s trajectory,” he added.
He wished his successor and the administration continued success in driving improvements in the lives of Nigerians and reaffirmed his commitment to national service and supporting President Tinubu.
