Fubara Promises Completion of Projects Despite Political Tensions in Rivers
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that his administration remains focused on governance and will complete all ongoing projects across the state despite recent political developments.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection tour of the new Airport Road Bypass in Port Harcourt.
Speaking during the visit, Fubara said his government was determined to continue delivering projects that would improve the lives of the people, stressing that the current political situation would not distract his administration from its responsibilities.
“I want to assure our people that notwithstanding the situation of things, one thing that I can promise everyone is that every good work that we have started, by the special grace of God, will continue and we will complete them. We’re in high spirits. Like we always say, Rivers First,” he said.
Fubara explained that the Airport Road Bypass project was initiated to provide an alternative route for commuters and reduce disruptions often caused along the main road leading to the Port Harcourt International Airport.
According to him, the project became necessary following repeated incidents where community protests led to blockages on the airport road, affecting movement and economic activities in the state.

“We’ve always had these issues where the community may want to express their anger or dissatisfaction over some activities of the airport authorities. In the process, they always block the airport road,” the governor said.
“We thought that in this modern society, such actions are not necessary anymore because whenever it happens, it affects the economic activities of the state. So, we liaised with the community and created this bypass.”
Fubara, who was accompanied around the project site by contractors handling the road construction, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and disclosed that the bypass would be completed before October 2026.
His comments come shortly after he announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election, citing the need to preserve peace, unity and political stability in Rivers State and within the party.
The governor’s decision not to seek re-election in 2027 has continued to generate reactions from political observers and stakeholders across the state.
