The Islamic State group later claimed responsibility for the attack, although no motive was provided.

The violence occurred in Guyaku community within Gombi Local Government Area, with reports indicating that the assault lasted for several hours and forced many residents to flee their homes out of fear of further attacks.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited the affected area after the incident and condemned the killings, describing the attack as a tragic assault on human lives and community peace.

Images and videos from the scene showed widespread destruction, including damaged buildings, burnt motorcycles, and vandalised worship centres. Witnesses said the attackers pursued fleeing residents into nearby areas while continuing the assault.

Community members and local leaders have called for increased security presence, stressing the urgent need for protection against recurring attacks in the region.

Adamawa and other parts of Nigeria’s north-east have continued to face violent attacks linked to extremist groups and armed criminal networks operating around the border regions near Cameroon.

The attack comes amid growing national concern over insecurity across the country and renewed pressure on authorities to strengthen security operations.
