#Nigeria Immigration Service Applauds EFCC and Calls for Strengthened Collaboration

The Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Rivers Marine Command, Bashir Mohammed Lawal, commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its increased effectiveness in combating economic and financial crimes. During a courtesy visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the EFCC on February 12, 2024, Lawal expressed appreciation for the efforts of the EFCC and emphasized the importance of a robust relationship and synergy to strengthen the fight against corruption.

Lawal, who recently assumed office as the Comptroller of NIS, Rivers Marine Command, sought closer collaboration and information sharing with the EFCC to enhance their collective impact.

In response, the Commander of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the EFCC, Assistant Commander Ahmed Ghali, welcomed the visit and highlighted the positive and cordial relationship between the EFCC and NIS. He emphasized that collaboration is a core value of the EFCC, acknowledging the NIS’s contribution in combating money laundering at borders and airports.

Additionally, Victor Ibim Bennibo, Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt branch, paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Command. Bennibo sought synergy and closer working relations between the Association and the EFCC, emphasizing the NBA’s role as a relevant stakeholder in the administration of the criminal justice system.

Ghali thanked Bennibo and his team for the visit, stressing the importance of collaboration. He advised against sponsoring matters to the Commission that do not pertain to economic and financial crimes, as the EFCC’s focus is limited to such cases.
