NIGERIAN NATIONAL, PARTNER FACE 50 YEARS OVER $575,000 CREDIT CARD FRAUD SCHEME IN U.S

A Nigerian national, Opeyemi Olujobi, also known as “Tyler Olujobi,” and his partner, Jennie Davidson, have been arrested in the United States over allegations of a large-scale credit card fraud scheme involving stolen identities and fraudulent transactions worth about $575,000.

US authorities said the couple was arrested in Poughkeepsie, New York, following an investigation by federal law enforcement agencies.

According to prosecutors, the duo allegedly used stolen personal details of hundreds of victims to gain unauthorized access to credit card accounts. The information reportedly included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, and home addresses.

Investigators say the suspects used the stolen identities to take control of more than 200 credit card accounts between May 2023 and October 2024. They allegedly changed account details, requested replacement cards to addresses they controlled, and went on a spending spree across retail stores in the Tri-State area.

The purchases, estimated at about $575,000, reportedly included gift cards and various merchandise.

US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, said the accused “enriched themselves by impersonating hardworking individuals and exploiting the credit their victims had spent years building.”

He added that the suspects allegedly used the US Postal Service to facilitate parts of the scheme.

Authorities also confirmed that Davidson faces additional money laundering charges.

Both defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud, access device fraud, and aggravated identity theft. If convicted, they could face decades in prison.

Officials from the US Postal Inspection Service said the case reflects ongoing efforts to combat identity theft and financial fraud carried out through mail and electronic systems, stressing that such crimes will continue to be aggressively prosecuted.
