The Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) has declared Wogu Olaka Johnson of the Peoples Democratic Party (Peoples Democratic Party) as the winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday, June 20.

The Returning Officer, Professor Rosemary Ogwu, announced the result on Sunday at the senatorial collation centre in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to the result, Johnson secured a total of 47,961 votes, defeating three other candidates in the contest.

The All Progressives Congress candidate, Osar Erewari, polled 1,647 votes, while Action Alliance candidate Douglas Fabeka Beke scored 1,175 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Sam Barikwa, received 367 votes.

Professor Ogwu declared that Johnson met all legal requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes, and was hereby returned elected.
The declaration was observed by INEC officials, including national and resident commissioners, alongside party agents, security operatives, and election observers.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the late Senator Barry Barinada Mpigi, who died in February.
