The Delta State Police Command has arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.
The officer has since been transferred to Abuja to face disciplinary proceedings at the Force Headquarters.
Ogidi was reportedly arrested while attempting to waybill a parcel said to contain a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition before the incident that led to his death.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, said the officer will appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee for investigation and possible prosecution.
According to him, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, after police operatives received intelligence from members of the public and moved to apprehend the suspect.
However, the officer leading the operation allegedly violated established police procedures by discharging his firearm, resulting in the suspect’s death.
The command said the action contravened Force Order 237 and the Nigeria Police Force’s Standard Operating Procedure.
