POLICE ARREST, REPATRIATE $245M PONZI SCHEME SUSPECT TO CHINA

The Nigeria Police Force, through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has arrested and repatriated a Chinese national, Xu Qing, to the People’s Republic of China over his alleged involvement in a massive financial fraud scheme.

Xu Qing is accused of running an illegal investment operation linked to a Ponzi-style scheme that reportedly involved the unlawful collection of public deposits valued at about $245 million.

According to the police, the repatriation followed an official request from Chinese authorities, who had declared him wanted in connection with the case. He was said to have fled China to Nigeria on November 5, 2024, in an attempt to escape arrest after investigations into the alleged fraud intensified.

A warrant for his arrest was later issued on November 12, 2025, by the Shinan Sub-Bureau of the Qingdao Public Security Bureau.

Acting on intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked and apprehended the suspect in Nigeria before completing arrangements for his extradition.

The Police described the operation as part of ongoing international cooperation efforts aimed at combating transnational financial crimes and ensuring that fugitives do not find safe haven in Nigeria.

Authorities added that Xu Qing has since been handed over to Chinese law enforcement officials to face prosecution in accordance with the allegations against him.
