Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering making a public apology to King Charles as part of ongoing efforts to repair relations with the Royal Family.
According to sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are exploring a statement that would acknowledge the strain of the past five years while still remaining true to their perspective. The proposed apology is said to be designed to show respect to the King without requiring the couple to retract the claims made in their interviews, documentaries, or Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.
The reports come amid renewed speculation about reconciliation following Harry and Meghan’s recent visit to Highgrove House, where their children were reunited with King Charles.
A source told royal journalist Rob Shuter that rebuilding trust is essential, adding that an apology should not be viewed as surrender but as recognition that the prolonged family dispute has caused significant pain.
“Everyone agrees trust has to be rebuilt. An apology doesn’t have to be a surrender. It’s an acknowledgement that this family feud went too far. Charles wants peace, but he also wants respect. This could be the first real step towards both,” the source said.
The rift between the Sussexes and the Royal Family has largely been linked to Harry and Meghan’s allegations of racism and mistreatment, as well as the revelations contained in Harry’s memoir, Spare.
Another source stressed that the discussions are not about Harry and Meghan admitting they were wrong about everything, but rather about recognising the emotional impact the conflict has had on the family.
According to the source, the key issue now is determining what such an apology should include—and what it should leave unsaid.
