A faction of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), known as PRP-Vanguard (Akida), has accused a rival group within the party of attempting to take control of its structure and divert it from its original socialist ideology ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At a press briefing held on Tuesday in Kano, the faction rejected a recent national convention organised in Abuja by what it described as the “Falalu faction,” claiming the gathering did not follow the party’s constitutional procedures and was therefore illegitimate.
The group, led by its National Chairman, Comrade Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu, also criticised the announcement of Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as a new national chairman by the rival camp, arguing that he is not a registered member of the party and has no authority to lead it.

The PRP-Vanguard faction alleged that the rival group is attempting to open the party to politicians from other political platforms, which it described as a move away from the party’s founding principles.
It maintained that the PRP was created as a socialist movement representing workers, peasants, and the general populace, insisting that it should not be transformed into a platform for elite political interests.
The faction also accused influential political forces of attempting to weaken the party’s ideological foundation, warning against what it described as efforts to turn the PRP into a vehicle for capitalist politics.

It further argued that the party remains committed to its original mission of advocating for the interests of ordinary Nigerians and resisting what it sees as elite domination of the political system.
The group rejected any calls for reconciliation with the rival faction, raising concerns over ideological direction, leadership legitimacy, and the exclusion of grassroots members from decision-making processes.

It also linked the internal crisis to broader national political and economic challenges, criticising the current administration over worsening living conditions and warning against what it described as continued political and economic mismanagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The faction insisted it will pursue its position through legal channels, grassroots mobilisation, and public engagement, maintaining that the PRP remains a party dedicated to the masses and not open to what it called political opportunists.
