The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that the arrest of suspects linked to the abduction of Mrs. Olaide John-Paul, sister of a former Minister of Power, and her twin sons has uncovered deeper intelligence about a wider kidnapping network operating in the state.

According to the Command, the rescue operation—carried out by the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team alongside tactical units of the Nigeria Police Force and the Oyo State Police Command—led to the safe recovery of the victims, the killing of two armed suspects during a gun battle, and the arrest of four others believed to be key members of the syndicate.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga said the operation marked a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle organised kidnapping groups across Oyo State. He explained that intelligence gathered from arrested suspects is already helping investigators trace other members of the criminal network still at large.
He added that one suspect on the police watchlist, known as “Oloro,” was initially arrested and later led investigators to another suspect, identified as “Solution,” who allegedly played a strategic role in the operation.

Investigations reportedly revealed that the gang had carried out extensive surveillance on the victims before the abduction, including monitoring their routines, vehicles, and the children’s school environment. Digital evidence also allegedly showed detailed tracking of the family prior to the attack.
Security operatives later stormed a hideout in the Lado area of Ibadan, where the operation turned into a shootout. Two armed suspects were killed after opening fire on the police team, while the kidnapped woman and her twin sons were rescued unharmed.

The police also confirmed the arrest of additional suspects who allegedly helped secure the hideout, as well as the recovery of weapons, vehicles, charms, and other items linked to the operation.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to track down remaining members of the gang and urged medical facilities to report any individuals with suspicious gunshot injuries. It also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained action against kidnapping and violent crime in the state.
